Ever since synthetic biology got underway as a discipline, there's been a connection between it and electronic design. Some of the first proponents of synthetic biology, or at least those that distinguished it from genetic engineering, came from the electronic engineering field.
This year will see the first International Workshop on Bio-Design Automation and it takes place at a conference that's become synonymous with electronics: the Design Automation Conference.
"The broad focus will be on concepts, methodologies and software tools for the automated synthesis of novel biological functions. A specific focus will be on the application of computational expertise from electronic circuit design to these areas," the organisers claim.
The workshop takes place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on the 27 July: the tutorial day for DAC.
